A princessy fairy tale!
When flying to Milan you might only think of shopping, shopping, shopping. I do not think you need any help with that, but when fed up with the noisy city and all the shops, there is a gorgeous destination at the Lago Maggiore that really makes you feel like a total princess, marvelously fairly-tale-like. Destination is Stresa, a tiny village on the lake, with mountains all around and 3 small islands with a castle and a village in the lake to which you can take a boat to have lunch.
The village is small enough to stroll around a bit and take a terrace, and about 1K from the hotel a cable starts taking you all the way up to the mountain. From the top you have a lovely view showing all 7 lakes around the place.
Decorated in a beautiful baroque kind of way with high painted ceilings, loads of chandeliers and big marble stairs.
In the village, lovely food and very good choice of wines (per glass). The other restaurant is at the mountain, reachable either from the golf course or walkable from the middle station of the cable.
